Moving Out of God’s Way
If you could be honest with yourself, what would you say is the one thing, the biggest obstacle, between you and God?
Unforgiveness, double-mindedness, and excuses, are three of the main issues that may go either unnoticed, or ignored for far too long. I believe our Heavenly Father deserves our very best. A little self-examination on a regular basis and sometimes painfully honest evaluations, will help us move ourselves out of the way, allowing us to have the best relationship possible with our Lord.
Unforgiveness- Whether we’re aware of it or not, our past experiences, trials, and circumstances have a tremendous role in shaping our outlook in life, as well as our reactions to current situations. At the root of many of our inabilities to forgive could lie even deeper issues that need to be dealt with, such as pride and insecurities.
What are we to do? Forgive, as the Father forgives us. There is no excuse. I am glad God didn’t get offended by my own sins to the point that His love was overpowered, causing an eternal rift between us. Love should always win. We are His representatives; are we acting as such? One of the greatest commandments Jesus told us was to love one another. Where unforgiveness reigns, love does not.
Double-mindedness- One of the surest ways to receive no wisdom or guidance from God, is being double-minded (James 1:7). We pray honestly, read diligently, and believe God is able to move on our behalf. Yet, our words and attitudes are contradicting our faith.
We must learn to not be led by our emotions. God’s grace truly is sufficient and we must acknowledge this truth with our ability to be still, to truly trust Him, and completely depend on Him. Let not your actions say otherwise.
Excuses- One of the biggest roadblocks, whether it’s subconscious or not, making excuses for our behavior or unbelief. It is both a hindrance in our walk with God, and a wrong example for others- especially unbelievers.
The best way to run excuses out of our vocabulary and mind is to continue seeking God through His Word, praise, and prayer. He who begun a good work in you will be faithful to complete it (Philippians 1:6). Be honest with yourself and be intentional in your thinking. We simply cannot hide true intentions from our God. May we not deny God by the way we live (Titus 1:16)
Our enemy was defeated and is under our feet. Praise God, for He has made a way! Sisters, may it not be us that create our own roadblocks. Pray, examine, detect, repent, and move on; the Lord is with us. Let us seek to honor Him in all our ways.
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.”
